3/14/2020 Grand Chapter of Vermont and Local Chapter meetings suspended until 4/15/2020

March 14, 2020
Dear Sisters and Brothers
On March 13, 2020 Governor Scott declared a State of Emergency for Vermont. As such, out of concern for the health and welfare of our membership, and the potential susceptibility they may have to contracting COVID-19, we have decided to suspend all Eastern Star activity in the jurisdiction of Vermont through and including April 15, 2020. This includes both Grand Chapter as well as local Chapter events.
The Grand Chapter Events that are cancelled are:
  •         3/29/2020 Grand Officers Entertainment: Forest-Unity Chapter, No. 82 & Lady Washington Chapter, No. 86 in Sharon, Vermont
  •         4/4/2020 Hands Across the Border in Morrisville, Vermont
  •         4/11/2020 Ice Cream Social in White River Junction, Vermont

New Hampshire is hosting the New Hampshire – Vermont Table Dinner on 3/28/2020. At this time, they are not cancelling this event. We leave it up to the discretion of our members whether or not they attend. Please note that the status of this event is subject to change.
For chapter regular meetings, during this time, chapters are not required to submit a request for dispensation. We recognize that it may be difficult to make up one or two meetings before Grand Chapter, therefore, any meetings that are missed during this period do not need to be made up. This is a one-time exception. Once this suspension of activity has been lifted, we will immediately continue with our regular schedule. Should a meeting need to be rescheduled after the suspension, you will be again required to submit dispensation requests.
The following mandates shall apply:
  •         Chapters which have held Annual Meetings, Elections but not Installation: Installation must take place at the first stated meeting following the lifting of this mandate.
  •         Chapters which have not yet held Annual Meetings, Elections and Installation: Elections and Installation must take place at the first stated meeting following the lifting of this mandate. Further instruction will follow.
  •         All Worthy Matrons, Secretaries and Treasurers will continue to pay bills during this period.

Should an urgent matter arise during this period, please contact either myself or Sister Jerri K. Riegler, Past Grand Matron, Grand Secretary via phone or e-mail.
Please continue to watch for updates and public notices from the State of Vermont and the CDC.  Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit. When there is a change in our status, we will notify the membership accordingly.
Proud To Be,

Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner
