Amish Country, PA Trip planned for October 26-29, 2021

08-13-2021 16:15:00
From: Donna Masterson, WGM & George Supernault, WGPTo: The MembershipAugust 4, 2021Hello All,The Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron are planning a trip to Amish Country inPennsylvania, October 26 thru 29. This is a Tuesday thru Friday. Believe it or not, we couldn’tget a bus over any weekend in September or October. At this point, the cost of the bus is themost uncertain amount. The bus will hold 54 passengers. If we fill the bus, the cost per personwill be about $132.00. If we do not fill it the price will be higher per person. Right now we have37 people interested in going. I was able to speak about this trip at each School of Instruction. Now I’m trying to reach out to those who have not heard about it yet.We will be staying at the Bird-In-Hand Family Inn. Room prices are as follows:     2 people in a room $145/ night     3 people in a room $164/night     4 people in a room $183/nightWe will be staying 3 nights. Room prices include a smorgasbord breakfast! The Inn provides a “Step on Guide” who would step onto our bus and direct usaround the area to see interesting things about the Amish people and their way of life. Therewould be stops along the way. The cost of this is just tips given by each of us at the end of thetour. There are also two theaters that I think would be worth our time. The Sight and Sound Theatre featuring the story of Queen Esther. How appropriate for us! Thecost would be about $60.The other Is the Bird-In-Hand Theatre. On the last night we’re there they will begin theirChristmas show. The cost for this one appears to be $39 or $59 for dinner and show.Hershey, PA is about 40 minutes from Bird-In-Hand so on our last day we will detour toHershey for a chocolate fix. The basic tour is free and we are scheduled for 10:00 am. Thereare some other activities as well, but we’ll have to consider our time frame. If you are interested in joining us on this trip then please let me know as soon as possible.donna.masterson@yahoo.com or 802-375-3657Star love,💛 Donna💜

2019-2020 Proud to Be Travel Award Announcement

05-11-2021 09:06:00
May 11, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers Our travel award was a little different this year. We updated what qualified for points trying to motive our members. There were types of events: Attend, Assist, Visit, Serve, Signer, and Bonus. The Attend was to not only travel to events but to attend your own Chapter meetings as well as Masonic, Rainbow Girls and Demolay events. The “Assist” was for Masonic Dinners and your own Chapter charity event. “Visit” was for Prospective members and for shut-ins. “Serve” was to pro-tem in Chapter that is not your own. “Signer” was to encourage members to sign petitions for new members. And last but in no way the least, the bonus category was for driving more than 1.5 hours to an event and additional points for travelers with you. We asked members to keep track of their points and when 200 points were accumulated to turn the booklet into Brother Bruce to receive the travel pin which was a blue dog paw print. We asked that members do not stop there but start a new booklet and continue to collect points for Chapter Travel Awards and Individual Awards. The top three in each will be recognized with a special award at the Grand Chapter Session. All books were turned in by May 1, 2020. The travel award pin was a blue paw print in honor of our special project Blue Star Mothers of Vermont Pet Program. Brother Bruce is also a big dog lover. We enjoyed handing out each and every one of our pins and thank those members who participated. We know that you time is valuable and appreciate you traveling us this past term. Had we been able to complete our term, we know that we would have given out more travel awards. The Chapter Awards went to: 1st Place Forest-Unity, No. 82; 2nd Place Charity, No. 57; and 3rd place Marble, No. 80. The 1st Place chapter was none other than our Worthy Grand Patron’s home Chapter! Way to go Forest-Unity for showing your support. The Individual Awards went to: 1st Place a tie with Doris J. Backus and Denis B. Backus; 2nd Place to Nadine Martin and 3rd Place to Palmer E. Martin. These individuals exemplify Easter Star and stepping in when needed. Not only did they travel, but if asked they would pro-tem. Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner Bruce A. Johnson

04-27-2021 09:28:00
April 26, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers We are moving forward with our 2021 Proud to Be session to be held at The Essex in Essex, Vermont on June 4, 2021. Unfortunately, due to COID-19 restrictions it is by invitation only. All invitations to attend this event have been sent out and confirmed.  If you have not received an invitation, we deeply apologize and ask for your understanding. We hope that you will attend the 2022 The Sunny Side of Life session. We will be doing Election of Grand Officers and legislation at the 2021 abbreviated session. We do have an official quorum of Chapters required by our Constitution. We also have a good representation from most of the Chapters. However, we would still like to give those that are not invited the opportunity to provide feedback. ·        Elected Grand Officers: You should have received the list of Elected Grand Officers who are running unopposed. If you would like to nominate a candidate not on the current slate of officers, please notify us. ·        Legislation: your Chapter Secretary should have shared with you the legislation for this session. Most of the legislation is administrative in nature. Those that are Constitutional changes, are being read at this session and voted on at the 2022 session per our regulations. Should you have questions or concerns about the legislation please let us know. Please send your nominations, questions or concerns to Sister Sherrill L. Gould, Past Grand Matron via email sgould321@comcast.net , phone 802-674-6446 or mail 24 Clough Avenue, Windsor, VT 05089. Vermont Grand Chapter Communication Regarding COVID-19 March 2021

03-30-2021 10:56:00
March 30, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers The Governor has made the decision that Social Clubs may open. In addition, Stuart Corso, Most Worshipful Grand Master has released a new edict on March 24, 2021 allowing Lodges to hold meetings. While we could start to meet, based on our survey only 50 percent of our members would attend if they were vaccinated but others will not. At this time there are still many members waiting on their first or second vaccination shot. As such many of our Chapters would not be able to make quorum. Therefore, we are suspending all local Chapter meetings until June 4, 2021 for local Chapters and until June 2, 2021 for Grand Chapter.  Sister Donna Masterson, Associate Grand Matron will notify Chapters after Grand Chapter Installation on our next steps. For chapter regular meetings, during this time, chapters are not required to submit a request for dispensation. This is a one-time exception. Once this suspension of activity has been lifted, we will immediately continue with our regular schedule. Should a meeting need to be rescheduled after the suspension, you will be again required to submit dispensation requests. Further instructions for meetings will be provided prior to your first meeting. Should an urgent matter arise during this period, please contact either myself or Sister Jerri K. Riegler, Past Grand Matron, Grand Secretary via phone or e-mail. Stay Home – Stay Connected – Stay Safe – Stay Strong – STAY POSITIVE! Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner Bruce A. Johnson

2021 Proud to Be Grand Chapter Session Update 2/26/2021

02-26-2021 09:54:00
February 25, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers We have had our first discussion with our 2021 Proud to Be session venue The Essex in Essex, Vermont and believe that we will be able to hold a one day session at their location. At this time, we are moving forward with the assumption that attendance will be limited to 75 people to ensure the ability to properly social distance. As such, attendance to the Session will be by invitation only. A separate invitation will be sent for the 2021-2022 “The Sunny Side of Life” Installation. Should the maximum be increased, we will continue to send invitations for attendance. This is to ensure that those with roles in the Session are able to attend. It includes the 2018-2021 General Grand Chapter Committee Members, 2019-2021 Grand Officers and District Deputy Grand Instructors, 2021-2022 Grand Officers, Jurisprudence, Registration and Credentials, Parliamentarian, Installing Suite and Home Board and partners or escorts not already included in one of the other lists. The tentative schedule will be provided at a later date. Please note that there will not be a basket raffle. If you are not on the invitation list, you will still be able to attend virtually via YouTube on a private channel. This information will be provided when we get closer to the date. We encourage our members to attend virtually if they can. Please note that this is subject to change based on the State guidance. Again, thank you for your patience as we move through these unchartered times. We are working hard to ensure that what we are doing is best for our members and our Order. Should an urgent matter arise during this period, please contact either myself or Sister Jerri K. Riegler, Past Grand Matron, Grand Secretary via phone or e-mail. Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit. When there is a change in our status, we will notify the membership accordingly. Please stay safe and healthy! We look forward to seeing you soon! Stay Home – Stay Connected – Stay Safe – Stay Strong – STAY POSITIVE! Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner Bruce A. Johnson

Vermont Grand Chapter Communication Regarding COVID-19 February 2021

02-16-2021 10:24:00
February 15, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers The Governor has once again extended the State of Emergency to March 15, 2021. In addition, Stuart Corso, Most Worshipful Grand Master has directed Lodges to hold meetings including elections via Zoom, telephone, email or regular mail encouraging our Lodges to remain closed. In Edict 10 dated February 1, 2021, he stated “It is my personal belief that when spring comes, the warmer weather coupled with the ongoing vaccinations for COVID 19, will lift some of the restrictions we are under now, and we will be able to meet in lodge again.” As the majority of our Chapters meet in Lodges, until the Grand Master lifts the restrictions, we are unable to meet in person. Therefore, we are suspending all local Chapter meetings until further direction is provided by the State of Vermont and Grand Lodge. Please keep in mind, that even if Grand Lodge lifts restrictions, we may continue our own suspension as we are not under the direction of Grand Lodge. Per our Most Worthy Grand Matron Marianne R. Shenefelt in her letter dated January 19, 2021: “I say farewell to 2020 and hello to 2021, my Sisters and Brothers! For the well-being of our Order, I believe it is necessary for Grand Chapters and Subordinate Chapters alike to move forward with their business, elections, installations, etc. I am aware there are challenges for doing this due to the various COVID-19 restrictions, but I have every confidence that together we can figure it out.” We are in the process of developing a path forward preparing instructions for local Chapters. Further information will be provided at a later date. or chapter regular meetings, during this time, chapters are not required to submit a request for dispensation. This is a one-time exception. Once this suspension of activity has been lifted, we will immediately continue with our regular schedule. Should a meeting need to be rescheduled after the suspension, you will be again required to submit dispensation requests. Further instructions for meetings will be provided prior to your first meeting. Grand Chapter events will also continue to be suspended until further notice. We are also developing several different plans for the Grand Chapter session and will inform you when we are closer to that date. Should an urgent matter arise during this period, please contact either myself or Sister Jerri K. Riegler, Past Grand Matron, Grand Secretary via phone or e-mail. 2021 Proud to Be Grand Chapter Session Update 2/5/2021

02-05-2021 15:15:00
February 5, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers It is that time of year when we start our planning to attend our Grand Chapter session as well as other Jurisdiction sessions. Many other Jurisdictions have already made announcements regarding their 2021 sessions. I am aware there are challenges for doing this due to the various COVID-19 restrictions, but I have every confidence that together we can figure it out.” Therefore, Vermont will have a Grand Chapter session scheduled for June 3-4, 2021 but at this time, we do not know exactly what it will look like. This will depend on Vermont regulations in addition to ensuring the health and safety of our members. Bruce and I will continue to work with our Jurisprudence Committee, Associate Grand Matron, Associate Grand Patron and Grand Secretary, to develop the best path forward for our membership. We are exploring several scenarios for the session and Installation of the new Grand Family. Further information will be provided at a later date. While there are many great things about going to the Grand Chapter session, one of them is seeing our sisters and brothers from other Grand Jurisdictions. It is an honor to have them in attendance, but alas, this year we respectfully request only Vermont members attend our session. This is due to the COVID-19 restrictions including the requirements for quarantine. Please note that many other Jurisdictions have the same restriction. Vermont members, please check with the Jurisdiction before making any plans. We do not know if these requirements will still be in effect in June, but believe it is best to make this determination now. We look forward to seeing our sisters and brothers at a future date when we can once again meet. Valentine Challenge 2021

01-06-2021 09:10:00
January 6, 2021 Dear Sisters and Brothers, Thank you to all that sent Christmas cards. I do not know about you, but this year the Christmas cards seemed a little bit more special than in years past. As I looked at each envelope to see who it was from, I excitedly opened the card with a big smile on my face. It got me thinking… why as adults do we only send cards at Christmas time? I remember fondly that as a child, each February, we would create a Valentine mailbox in art class. Then we would go shopping with mom for the perfect cards to give out to our friends and classmates. The Valentine’s cards always came in a mixture, so you got to pick and chose which one to use. Then on the big day, you delivered these Valentines into the beautifully decorated mailboxes. So, I have a challenge for you! This year let us send out Valentines to a sister or brother! It could be just one, or 5, or 10, or even 100! It can even be in an email to someone who has not heard from you lately. You can buy from a store or make your own. Let’s have fun with this! I think that it will make the recipient of your Valentine card(s) very happy and put a smile on their face as they will know you are thinking of them. And with the cold winter in full swing, we could all use a smile! Stay Home – Stay Connected – Stay Safe – Stay Strong – STAY POSITIVE! Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner Bruce A. Johnson

Happy Thanksgiving! November 2020

11-20-2020 09:32:00
November 20, 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers, GIVE THANKSFor each new morningwith its lightfor rest and shelterof the nightfor friends and loveFor EverythingThy goodness sends~ Ralph Waldo Emerson It may not feel like we have much to be thankful for during these trying times, but we do. We have to remind ourselves how fortunate we are especially having a second family in the Eastern Star. But not everyone is as blessed as we are. Some may be struggling with finding money to pay their heating bill or need medical assistance. The Eastern Star has an organization that may be able to help, our Vermont Eastern Star Home, Inc. (Home Board). While our Grand Chapter and local Chapters have not been holding meetings, the Home Board has not been idle. We have been working virtually to review applications and grant money to those in need. The Eastern Star Benevolent Fund was established when the Vermont Eastern Star home in Randolph was sold. These funds have been invested and are managed by Wells Fargo Securities. There are 12 members on the Board of Trustees, eight of whom are elected to either a one or three year term at the annual meeting held at the Grand Chapter session in June. The other four members are the Worthy Grand Matron, Worthy Grand Patron, Associate Grand Matron and Associate Grand Patron. The Vermont Eastern Star Home, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity and as such is a tax exempt corporation. The Benevolent Fund assists our Vermont Eastern Star members as well as non-members who are Vermont residents. In addition, each year the Benevolent fund gives donations to several Vermont charities at our Grand Chapter Session. The Benevolent Fund assists with medical bills, medicines, lifelines, fuel, glasses, house repairs, handicapped needs such as wheelchairs and lifts and many other items. Payments are made directly to the service providers. The fund does not pay for the salaries of health care providers. Applications are available from any board member as well as chapter secretaries. All applications and information which comes to the board is kept in the strictest confidence unless the recipient chooses otherwise. The board relies on our Vermont membership to recommend individuals in need.  Applications are available on our website. You can also donate to the Fund. Please contact the Board’s Secretary Mrs. Deborah F. Litchfield, Past Grand Matron 802-874-4957 or deborahlitchfield@comcast.net. We give thanks to the member of this Board for their dedication and hard work! Stay Home – Stay Connected – Stay Safe – Stay Strong – STAY POSITIVE! Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Vermont Grand Chapter Suspends ALL Activities through February 28, 2021

10-19-2020 14:24:00
October 19, 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers The Governor has once again extended the State of Emergency to November 15, 2020. As many of our Chapters go dark either December/January or January/February, after long discussion we have decided to extend the suspension through February 28, 2021. As there has been an uptick in cases with school starting and that a majority of our members meet the criterion to stay home, we believe it is best to continue our suspension. This includes both Grand Chapter as well as local Chapter events. DO NOT PANIC! Our great Order will still be there in February 2021!! In 2016 we discussed at the Mid-Winter Meeting the top five reasons our members ARE members: love and friendship, making friends, believe in values, parents, and history/honor/pride of family. With this past year and a half and many of our members going through hard times, we know that the love and friendship they received from their Eastern Star sisters and brothers, not to mention their prayers, got them through. we have heard many of them say so. We encourage you to reach out to our members. Stay in touch. Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit. If a Chapter would like to hold a phone call using a conference call number, please contact me (Jacque) and I can provide you with my number to use. As others are using it, the time will need to be scheduled. Please remember that business cannot and should not be conducted until a regular meeting to be held at a future date. This is a social call only. 2021 CAN-AM Update! Moved to NEW DATES February 25-27, 2022

09-29-2020 13:18:00
Dear Sisters and Brothers, I hope all is well with you. This year has turned out to be quite different from what we were all anticipating.  Most jurisdictions have pushed out for one year. Therefore, any special events that were to take place have also pushed out for one year.  This is true for the Can-Am that was scheduled for January 29-31, 2021. This notice is meant to clear up any misinformation. The Associate Grand Patron, Brother George Supernault, and I were given the privilege of hosting the Can-Am during our year. Due to the pandemic, the dates of that year have changed. We are very pleased to inform you that the new dates for the Can-Am are February 25-27, 2022.  It will be held at the Hilton Hotel on the waterfront in downtown Burlington in the green mountain state of Vermont.  There will be information sent out to all of you when the time draws near. Take care and Star love to all, Donna L. Masterson, Associate Grand Matron

Vermont Grand Chapter Communication Regarding COVID-19 August 2020

08-15-2020 11:27:00
August 14, 2020 Dear Sisters and Brothers As the Governor has extended the State of Emergency to September 15, 2020, we are extending the suspension through September 30, 2020. In addition, as many of our Chapter rooms do not have air conditioning and we have been experiencing high temperatures, wearing masks may be difficult for many members. As a majority of our members meet the criterion to stay home, we believe it is best to continue our suspension. This includes both Grand Chapter as well as local Chapter events. We encourage you to reach out to your members. Stay in touch. Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit If a Chapter would like to hold a phone call using a conference call number, please contact me (Jacque) and I can provide you with my number to use. As others are using it, the time will need to be scheduled. Please remember that business cannot and should not be conducted until a regular meeting to be held at a future date. This is a social call only. Please understand that the reason we extend on a monthly basis rather than indefinitely or for a longer period is that we keep hoping that we can get together sooner rather than later. So please bear with us as we navigate through this uncertain time. When there is a change in our status, we will notify the membership accordingly. For chapter regular meetings, during this time, chapters are not required to submit a request for dispensation. This is a one-time exception. Once this suspension of activity has been lifted, we will immediately continue with our regular schedule. 7/15/2020 Grand Chapter of Vermont Extension of Suspension through August 31, 2020

As a majority of our members meet the criterion to stay home, we believe it is best to continue our suspension. This includes both Grand Chapter as well as local Chapter events. This picture was posted to Facebook Order of the Eastern Star group and I thought it said it all. I know that we are all anxious to start meeting again and we thank you for your patience and understanding. We are not in this alone. Many other jurisdictions have also chosen to stay home. With all the unknowns, it is the most logical thing to do. We encourage you to reach out to your members. Stay in touch. Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit If a Chapter would like to hold a phone call using a conference call number, please contact me (Jacque) and I can provide you with my number to use. Johnson

6/24/2020 Grand Chapter of Vermont Proud to Be 2020 Session Postponed until 2021

06-24-2020 10:32:00
June 24, 2020Dear Sisters and BrothersWhile the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" is in the process of being lifted and groups up to 75 will soon be allowed, out of a great deal of love and concern for our membership, in consultation with Jurisprudence Committee, Associate Grand Matron, Associate Grand Patron and Grand Secretary, we have decided to postpone the Proud to Be Session until June 2021. This is the first time in our history that we have had to do this.Per our Most Worthy Grand Matron Marianne R. Shenefelt:“Those who are in the high-risk group should not attend meetings until it is considered safe by health experts to do so. Those at high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19 are: people aged 65 years and older; people who live in a nursing home or long-term care facility; people of all ages with underlying medical conditions, particularly if not well controlled including chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma; serious heart conditions; diabetes; chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis; liver disease; and people who are immunocompromised which includes cancer treatment, smoking, bone marrow or organ transplantation, immune deficiencies, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS, and prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune weakening medications (source: cdc.gov/coronavirus).”As a majority of our members meet this criterion, we believe this is the best for the welfare of our members. The Grand Chapter of Vermont will stay in repose until June 2021. The Worthy Grand Matron, Worthy Grand Patron, and all Grand Officers elected and appointed, will stay in the respective positions. As our Chapters were unable to hold installation of officers, all subordinate officers shall stay in their positions that they are currently hold until 2021.All checks that have been received for meals and/or pre-registration will be returned by the Grand Secretary. If you have made hotel reservations, the Essex will automatically cancel your reservation for you and will refund your deposit. No action is required by you.The Proud to Be June 2021 session will be held at The Essex. Further details will be provided in February 2021.Should an urgent matter arise during this period, please contact either myself or Sister Jerri K. Riegler, Past Grand Matron, Grand Secretary via phone or e-mail. Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit. When there is a change in our status, we will notify the membership accordingly. Please stay safe and healthy! We look forward to seeing you soon!Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner Bruce A. June 23, 2020Dear Sisters and BrothersWhile the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" is in the process of being lifted and groups up to 75 will soon be allowed, out of concern for our membership, we have extended the suspension to July 31, 2020. We are concerned about being able to social distance under the pavilion, the need to wear masks in the heat for several hours and the serving of the food. The next Rob Morris Day will be in August 2021.For chapter regular meetings, during this time, chapters are not required to submit a request for dispensation. This is a one-time exception. At this time future events are planned as scheduled. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Jacque Shiner, Worthy Grand Matron or Jerri Riegler, Grand Secretary, Past Grand Matron.

3/12/2020 Vermont Grand Chapter Communication Regarding COVID-19

03-12-2020 10:39:00
March 12, 2020Dear Sisters and BrothersI am sure you have been monitoring the news regarding the COVID -19 outbreak, which the World Health Organization has announced as a pandemic. At this time, there is two (2) reported positive cases in Vermont, with 215 being monitored. At this time, our fraternal meetings and events will go on as scheduled in Vermont. However, being concerned for the health and welfare of our membership, here is guidance to follow when attending functions that should help keep our membership’s health and prevent the spread in Vermont:       If you are feeling sick and running a fever, please stay home and refrain from attending meetings or events.  Even if you think you may be coming down with something, please practice social distance policy and stay home        Avoid handshakes, fist pumps, hugs, and that sort of close physical contact as it is a way to spread the virus. Avoid touching your hands to your face or nose at all times. If you cough or sneeze, please do so into your elbow or tissues  .      Wash your hands as often as needed. Use the 20 second rule ("Row Row Row Your Boat" song). Use personal hand sanitizer when a sink with soap and water are not available.  Suggest to your lodge or church to have hand sanitizer stations strategically throughout the building         See that common areas in the building where you meet are being cleaned properly, using disinfectants to wipe down surfaces that are frequently touched         If you are concerned about attending events, particularly at this time, that could expose you to the virus, please feel comfortable to make the decision not to attend Please continue to watch for updates and public notices from the State of Vermont and the CDC.  Please be attentive to our elderly members and check in on them frequently as they are the group that will be the hardest hit. Should there be any changes in our status, we will notify the membership accordingly. Proud To Be, Jacqueline (Jacque) M. Shiner Bruce A. Johnson

E-Mail News: New Process Starting March 15, 2018

03-05-2018 09:30:00
Sisters and Brothers,The E-Mail News will be done differently this year. We will be moving to a new email address, and all notices will be sent from only one source. This will eliminate the duplicate emails so that you should receive only one email per announcement. This will streamline the distribution of OES News.In order for the new format to work, it is important that we have accurate names and email addresses from each of you. To sign up for the OES News you just need to send an email to grandchapternews@oes-vt.org and include you name and email address. We will then add you to the distribution list. With the cost of USPS stamps nearing $.50 per letter, using email saves the Grand Chapter mailing costs. The other advantage to email is that OES news can be more immediate, and members will get it in a more timely manner. The switch to the new system will take place on March 15th at noon. In order to continue to receive OES News after that date you MUST be signed up at: grandchapternews@oes-vt.org.Fraternally,James Bennett PGPJulia Bennett PM

Update on Star Bytes

01-25-2018 18:33:00
January 23, 2018Dear “Star Bytes” Subscribers:Twenty years ago, our Worthy Grand Matron Jerri K. Riegler and Worthy Grand Patron Calvin K. Keyler founded our state newsletter “Star Bytes”.  Members in Vermont and beyond looked forward to getting their issue filled with photos, news and fun tidbits.  Since the passing of Brother Cal, it has been a difficult task to keep our newsletter up and running.  In the meantime, however, news has continued to spread through our web site, face book and our monthly electronic newsletter keeping our members up-to-date.  It is our feeling, therefore, that we retire our newsletter “Star Bytes” and donate the balance from our bank account to our Grand Chapter General Fund.  We thank each and every one of you for your donations, articles and support throughout the years and hope that you agree with our recommendation.  If you have questions or would like to discuss further, please contact Karen K. Price, Past Grand Matron by April 1, 2018.  Hearing none, we will close our account and make a presentation on behalf of you (our subscribers) at Grand Chapter.Newsletter CommitteeKaren K. Grand Chapter Special Project

06-29-2016 09:31:00
The 2016-2017 Stars of Service special project is the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) Peer Assisted Learning & Support (PALS) group program for adults. This program allows our adult clients to cope with their vision loss surrounded by others who are facing similar challenges. Many are new to having a visual impairment, had to give up driving or hobbies due to their change in vision, and thus feel isolated and even depressed. PALS meetings enable our older clients to get together to discuss the social, emotional, and practical effects of vision loss. They discuss coping strategies, try out adaptive technology to assist with various tasks, and support one another in a social setting.PALS meetings are held twice per week in 11 different locations across the state. These meetings give our adult clients a chance to discuss the practical, social, and emotional effects of their vision loss. PALS group also gives these clients a chance to share coping strategies and socialize so they feel comfortable in their homes and communities again. They listen to guest speakers, many of whom are blind or visually impaired themselves. PALS group members also take part in activities in and around their community. These outings are important for the personal growth of our clients because they increase confidence and promote involvement in the community. Adults who participate in PALS groups become more comfortable traveling around their community and as a result a more likely to maintain their independence and sense of belonging.Worthy Grand Matron Sherrill Gould and Worthy Grand Patron James Chancey have a goal to raise $20,000 for this special project. We are off to a great start! As of June 25th we have raised  $1,333.26 of which $106 is from apron sales.
